Venue: Indigiscapes, 17 Runnymede Rd, Capalaba, Brisbane

Entry fees:
Workshops: $ 10 – Fee will go directly to the Workshop Instructor 
Performances: Optional Gold Coin donation.

There will be some great Raffle prizes throughout the weekend including a uke or two!

SATURDAY 20TH AUGUST

WORKSHOPS
9:55 am -10:55 am – Trevor Gollagher – Percussive Strumming
Learn dynamic techniques that will take your playing to a whole new level. Learn to strum like professional players and instantly sound better- its easy! Regardless of your skill level you will get lots from this workshop.

11:05 am – 12:05 pm – Sarah Calderwood – Songwriting on Ukulele
Ever wanted to write a song but not sure where to find inspiration? This workshop is a good place to start. Having just finished recording her latest album of songs mostly written on ukulele, ARIA nominated singer Sarah Calderwood will share insights into the song writing process.

From folk music to psychedelic rock, the Trippy Hippies are spreading the uke love.

 

 

 

 

 

12:50 – 1:30 pm – Gollagher Ross
Sparkling ukulele rhythms and virtuosic cello. Trever Gollagher & Elizabeth Ross perform a lively and eclectic blend of original and traditional roots music.

 

 

 

 

 

 

1:40 – 2:20 pm – Sarah Calderwood
The sweetest of voices and she’s in love with her ukulele! Many will know Sarah for her role in Celtic band Sunas, duo Two Crows and recently in the American Roots/blues band Red Crow.
Sarah received an ARIA nomination for her solo album “As Night Falls” in 2012.

A group of young at heart baby boomer Uke tragics, from the B.U.M.S ranks, who love to share the joy of the Uke, and music.

Play a song or lead a song that others can jam along to. BYO uke or borrow one of ours!

 

 

3:50 – 4:20 pm – RCU’s (Redland City Ukuleles)

RCU meet twice a month at Cleveland – a happy bunch!

 

 

Dukes of Uke4:30 – 5:00 pm – Dukes of Uke
formed in 2009 to offer those with a desire to play uke, an opportunity to strum & sing along in a friendly social environment. Old time sing along songs to rock ‘n roll & pop hits.

 

 

 


SUNDAY 21st AUGUST

WORKSHOP
10:45 – 11:45 am  – Jason Darling – Exotic Rhythm Techniques – Flamenco, Syncopated and Claw Hammer
Taming The Shrew – or -How To Wield The Rhythm Hand With Precision. For 20 years Jason Darling has been tackling all manner of exotic strumming techniques. From the Rasquedos of the Flamencos to the intricacies of the Repiques used by Charanguistas in Bolivia and Peru …. From the highly syncopated strokes of 1930s/40s ukulele wizards like George Formby and Roy Smeck to the clawhammer/up-picking Styles of Pete And Peggy Seeger. Innovating all the while, Jason has built up a massive bag of rhythm hand techniques and aims to share within this workshop the fundamental building blocks necessary for the execution of these, most eloquent expressions of rhythm.

Peter has developed a diverse and quirky repertoire,including early pop, rock, jazz, latin, blues and country plus classics from stage shows and movies of yesteryear. Beneath it all lurks an undercurrent of fun.

 

 

 

 

 

Chris and Judy12:30 – 12:50 pm – Chris & Judy
Friends who get together regularly to sing (with a dash of harmony) and play a mix of musical styles such as fingerpicking blues, folk, a little Gypsy jazz and country.
With Chris on baritone and Judy on tenor they also enjoy playing instrumentals – including rhythmically driven and evocative melodies.

For over 20 years Jason ha been specialising in all manner of exotic strumming techniques, and is a master of rhythm.
